Anatomic Breast Implant

Teardrop-type breast implants are also called "anatomical shaped implants". They are also known as water drop or teardrop implants. In fact, what is meant by these terms is that the implant is shaped in the form of the breast. Anatomical or "teardrop"-shaped implants are breast prostheses shaped to mimic the shape of the breast. They are thin on top and expand downward, similar to the natural breast type.

Teardrop (anatomical) silicone implants are not a new product. They have been widely used since approximately 1992. They can be produced in various shapes such as round-surfaced, anatomical teardrop and cohesive gel using an adhesive silicone gel on the implant. In other words, the water drop-type implant we use today is about 20 years old and is the most preferred type of silicone implant today.

Furthermore, the cohesive silicone gel does not move like a liquid even if the shell breaks. This is also called a form stable gel, and the implants are called “form stable” implants. Because this cohesive silicone gel is firmer than standard silicone gel, anatomical implants can shape the breast tissue better than round implants.

Most patients who have undergone breast augmentation or breast implant replacement are suitable for teardrop (anatomical) silicone implants. They are also recommended for patients who have undergone revision breast surgery.

The choice of implant largely depends on the patient’s expectations, body type and shape, and the surgeon’s experience.

What shape should the silicone implant be? Should you choose teardrop (anatomical) or round? What are the advantages and disadvantages of both silicone implants? First of all, teardrop (anatomical) silicone implants are much more advantageous than round silicone implants in some cases. They are unique in that they create more natural-looking breasts in a more reliable way and prevent the “surgical” appearance that can sometimes occur with large round implants. However, both types of implants provide satisfactory breast enlargement and excellent aesthetic results can be achieved with both types. However, most round implants contain a softer gel than the gel found in teardrop implants, so they do not have the same shaping ability. Contrary to popular belief, teardrop (anatomical) implants create sufficient upper breast fullness.
